There are two stages to getting a study into Studycast from a folder, or removable media: getting the DICOM files into CoreGateway (using "Copy to CoreGateway" or the Import tool), and then uploading them to Studycast (using CW Upload). Below are instructions for each.
Option 1: "Copy to CoreGateway" (cg2cp file explorer extension)
This is a quick way to send DICOM files from a folder on your computer straight into CoreGateway, without opening the web browser.
Note: This requires the cg2cp extension to be installed on your computer. It's installed separately from CoreGateway itself — check with your administrator if you don't see this option.
Steps:
- Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the folder that contains your DICOM files.
- Select the folder (or the DICOM files inside it).
- Right-click and choose "Copy To CoreGateway" from the context menu. If you don't see it listed directly, click "Show more options" at the bottom of the context menu to expand the full list.
- The files will be sent to CoreGateway automatically. Once received, CoreGateway will process them according to its configured processing rules — if it's set to automatically upload to Studycast, no further action is needed.
Option 2: Import via the CoreGateway Web UI
Use this if you don't have the cg2cp extension, or prefer to import through the browser.
Steps:
- Log in to the CoreGateway Web UI.
- Go to Tools | Import.
- Open the folder containing your DICOM files in a separate file explorer window and select the files you want to import (note: whole folders can't be dragged in — only individual files).
- Drag and drop the selected files onto the Import page.
- The files will appear in the import list with a "pending" status.
- Click "Start Import." A progress bar will show upload status.
- Successfully imported files turn green ("success").
- Failed files turn red ("error") and show an error message.
- You don't need to stay on this page — importing runs in the background.
- Once import finishes, go to the Studies page to confirm the study now appears there (refresh if needed).
Uploading the Study to Studycast (CW Upload)
Once a study is in CoreGateway (via either method above), if it isn't set to upload automatically, you'll need to manually send it to Studycast:
- Go to the Studies page.
- Check the box next to the study (or studies) you want to upload. You can select multiple.
- Click the down arrow next to the header checkbox to open the batch actions menu.
- Select "CW Upload."
- In the "Upload selected studies to CW" dialog, review/fill in:
- Division Code (required)
- Reading Group Code (optional)
- Referring Group Code (optional)
- Study Type (optional — matches a study type alias in Studycast, e.g. "echo," "car" for carotid)
- Click "CW Upload" to confirm.
- CoreGateway will automatically transcode the study if it hasn't been already, then upload it.
- Turn on Studies page auto-refresh and wait until the study status shows "COMPLETE."
- Log in to Studycast — the study should now appear in your list.
Important: CoreGateway must be in "Online (available)" transmission mode for uploads to actually go through. If it's not, uploads will queue and wait until the mode switches back to online.
